What Makes It Special
The Pikey Peak Trek is one of Nepal’s best-kept secrets, a tranquil alternative to the Everest Base Camp trail, offering equally breathtaking Himalayan views with a fraction of the crowds. Curated by Himalayan Magic Treks’ expert local guides, this route blends off-the-beaten-path adventure with cultural immersion. The trail grants you front-row seats to Everest without needing to fly to Lukla, making it both logistically easier and more eco-conscious. With over 15 years of experience, we ensure every step feels personal, safe, and inspiring.
Embark on a 7-day Pikey Peak Trek, a short yet unforgettable Himalayan adventure that weaves through peaceful forests, ancient monasteries, and quiet Sherpa villages with breathtaking mountain vistas at every turn. Beginning with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhap Bazaar, the journey gradually rises through the lush mid-hills of the Solu region, a lesser-traveled corner of the Everest region rich in both natural beauty and cultural heritage. As you trek from Dhap to Jhapre, and onward to the Pikey Base Camp, you'll pass through blooming rhododendron forests, wide meadows, and hidden paths lined with colorful prayer flags.
Each day reveals something new: the sound of bells ringing in distant monasteries, the scent of pine in the mountain air, and warm smiles from locals welcoming you into their teahouses. The highlight comes on Day 4, as you ascend pre-dawn to the summit of Pikey Peak (4,065m), a panoramic viewpoint that Sir Edmund Hillary once claimed offered his favorite view of Mount Everest. From here, a 360° sweep reveals Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Dhaulagiri, and more, stretching across the horizon like a painter’s masterpiece.
Trekking hours typically range between 5 to 7 hours per day, with a comfortable pace that allows for both movement and immersion. Nights are spent in rustic yet cozy local teahouses, offering hearty meals and authentic Himalayan hospitality. Cultural touches are abundant: visit monasteries in Jhapre, witness daily Sherpa life, and walk trails used for generations.
Throughout the journey, Himalayan Magic Treks ensures seamless logistics, professional guidance, and personalized attention, whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned explorer. The Pikey Peak Trek is more than just a trail; it's a soulful experience that connects you with nature, community, and the majestic rhythm of the Himalayas. You’ll return not only with incredible photographs, but with lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for Nepal’s mountain spirit.

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhap Bazaar, the trailhead of the Pikey Peak Trek. The drive takes you along winding mountain roads, terraced hillsides, and traditional rural settlements. Dhap Bazaar is a small town inhabited mostly by Sherpa and other hill communities. You’ll spend the night here, acclimatizing to the higher elevation.
You’ll start your trek with a gentle ascent through rhododendron forests and traditional villages. Along the way, enjoy distant views of Numbur Himal and Everest on a clear day. Jhapre is a quiet village perched above a deep valley and offers spectacular sunset views. Visit the local monastery and interact with the villagers for a rich cultural experience.
Today’s journey continues through open yak pastures and pine forests, gradually gaining altitude. As you ascend, the landscape becomes more alpine with wide-ranging views of the Himalayan range. Upon reaching Pikey Base Camp, you’ll rest and prepare for the early morning hike to the summit. The Base Camp offers an open view and a peaceful mountain atmosphere.
Rise early for the highlight of the trek — the summit of Pikey Peak. The trail to the top is a steady uphill climb through alpine meadows. Upon reaching the summit, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the Himalayas including Mt. Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, and Annapurna. After spending time at the top, descend through scenic ridgelines and retrace your steps back to Jhapre for the night.
After breakfast, begin your return trek to Dhap Bazaar through the same scenic trails. Upon reaching Dhap, you’ll meet your private vehicle and drive back to Kathmandu. The return journey offers time to reflect on your trek and soak in the diverse scenery once again.
After breakfast, we will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward journey. Our team will assist with airport formalities and bid you farewell, hoping to see you again for another Himalayan adventure.
