Khopra Danda Trek – Overview
The Khopra Danda Trek is a soul-stirring journey through the quieter side of Nepal’s Annapurna region, offering a perfect balance of natural grandeur, cultural immersion, and peaceful mountain solitude. Over 7 days, you’ll venture from the subtropical lowlands to high alpine ridges, winding through terraced farmlands, dense rhododendron forests, and open pastures dotted with grazing yaks. Each step reveals new panoramas—snow-capped peaks like Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) follow you throughout the journey, creating a majestic backdrop to every day’s adventure.
Your trek begins with a scenic drive to Ghandruk, a traditional Gurung village known for its slate-roofed homes and rich cultural charm. From there, you ascend gradually to Tadapani and then to Bayeli Kharka, where the forest gives way to expansive ridgelines with sweeping Himalayan views. The high point of the trek—Khopra Danda (3,660m)—offers a serene and lesser-traveled vantage point that rivals Nepal’s most iconic viewpoints. A full-day hike to the sacred Khayar Lake (4,500m) brings you face to face with alpine wilderness and deep spiritual heritage.
Each day involves 5 to 7 hours of moderate trekking, with well-timed breaks and comfortable overnight stays in friendly teahouses and community lodges. The pace allows you to adapt to the altitude while soaking in the breathtaking surroundings. As you descend through Swanta and onward to Ghorepani, you’ll explore remote villages, cascading waterfalls, and rich forests that echo with birdsong. Your final reward: a sunrise hike to Poon Hill (3,210m), where the first light paints the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges in gold.
